Ceremonies and traditions before Nyepi

In Balinese Hinduism, the refund is made in several parts of worship. There are four rules known as Catur Brata Penyepian guiding Hindus abstain from a moment of this World and physical activities. Celebrating the New Year's Hindu Saka in Bali has the deepest sense of all. After all shining and the shower of light throughout the year in hundreds of places of interest in the island, the appeal should come to be reborn in a calm and peaceful means. Nyepi comes in the ninth month of the year and especially Saka took place in March or early April.

The first is the principle Geni called Amati. People are not allowed to use lights and fire for the whole day, which includes not burning or placing on a stove, and they can not do the cooking for meals. Parallel to this end, they will refrain from eating and drinking for 24 hours. In further reflection, symbolizes the turning point in the fire off the five senses of the soul, and all the emotions unscrupulous. It puts the other in the sensitivity of his mind, and it improves the quality of life. Other actions to transform the relationship corporal are declining; not do any work at all called Amati Karya, not going anywhere (Lelungan Amati), and avoiding any form of entertainment (Lelanguan Amati).

On Nyepi Day, Hindus stay at home, but they are not supposed to listen to the radio, watch TV, talk to each other, answer phones, or take in guests. Instead, they should ask and meditate in the dark, or have prayers at their own pura called merajan (small house-sanctuary in the front part of the house) to work on the inside part of their spiritual life .

It is very quiet in the streets and it is impossible to go anywhere, even for other communities who are exempt from this rite. The international airport of Ngurah Rai and all access to the port of Bali is closed. The airport will not fly flights, transfer, or the emergency landing, while public services such as hospitals and transport for the sick and other urgent cases will be limited to the judgement of village heads .

Like many visitors could not do anything else on the island, they will have to stay at the hotel and find their own activities of the day. Hindus in Bali are very religious. All ages, with the exception of babies seem to be very much linked to the observance of prayer. Women wear kebaya and have their hair twisted while men in white with udang (traditional headdress) on their heads. They walleye March under umbrellas, which are used for rituals.

To set up the execution of Catur Brata Penyepian, all figures of worship sacred and utensils should be cleaned for the oceans or in Melasti Melis ceremony. When cleaning, Melasti aims to clean human soul from dirt and sins. Hindus believe that the force of nature that will make all the suffering and refresh the soul. It is important to sip something from the ocean, that the ocean is full of waves, just like the world, life, where humanity must rediscover the essence of life from the inside.

The parade itself is rich and catchy special event for tourists, especially before D-day blackout. Bali could be fussed with congestion until the eve of Nyepi. In large puras, women flooded shrines tenders on large baskets on their heads. Some people walk stretches a long sheet of yellow and white fabric known as "The Bridge of God."

Gamelan (brass musical instruments) and barong (a kind of mystical Balinese puppet) are also sacrosanct figures go on the beach. The gamelan bands march and play along the street, escorting barongs, fruits, rice, natural food and transported in carriers filled, heading to the seafront, such as puras Tanah Lot, Goa Lawah, or Kuta. After prayers and rituals faces the sea, preachers will splash all facilities with holy water, and bless them for the next use for the next year.

And one day before Nyepi is the ceremony Tawur Kasanga. The ceremony was held at each location on the island, in the front yard across the city pura. Each house has merajan to decorate with Panca Warna offerings. Sanggah cucuk cane bamboo were placed against the door of the display colorful gifts of sacrifice, "ketupat (rice cooked in the square of coconut leaves), tumpeng (rice cone), chicken and other products food, rice and wine, alcohol, water and presented in bamboo.

This Tawur Kasanga aims to please the natural environment to inspire Hindus to always take care of the ecosystem, because that's what the balance in life should look. According Wiana in his book Yadnya and Bhakti, tawur means to return or to pay on something that people should also give a sincere current nature, as human beings seem to be much of the environment of all time. Hindus are taught to drop materialism and greed, but to make it simple: to take but to give.

In parts of towns, tawur will continue with Ngrupuk as the sun goes down. Here, each family member has his own ritual to start the noise around the house holding torches and sprinkle with rice on the streets. In the towns and villages most important, people parade a huge sculpture called ogoh-ogoh, dressed in colorful wood representing the face frightening supernatural giant Bhuta Kala or the power of evil. The giant will be danced in the vibrant gamelan music and jumped around the village for a while. At the end of the rite, they blaze the fire to get rid of the wicked power represented by the giant figure.

Then, the next day, when the peace comes, Nyepi loneliness is really a day. A day to waive the normal clamor is designed for looking through a more advanced in the future quality of life. If we could see through it, he or she will be able to let go of evil, enter peace in his mind, and start the dharma, something that most people dream of a new life
